Whanganui Bowel Screening Programme shows value in first month

Within four weeks of going live, the Whanganui DHB bowel screening programme is already showing the value identifying five residents who maybe at risk of bowel cancer.

The National Bowel Screening programme launched in the Whanganui District Health Board region on October 22 and five people have returned a positive test in the first month of screening.

While the positive test may not necessarily mean the presence of cancer, the results show the value of bowel screening in detecting tiny traces of blood in a bowel motion.
