Personal stories

Many New Zealanders participate in screening programmes and have their own stories to tell. We are privileged to be able to share some of those stories.

Jaydin's story

"I cannot speak highly enough of the benefits of finding out early that Jaydin had PKU, and of the massive support from the medical team right from the start. They have been with him every step of the way."

Jaydin, born in 1998, has Phenylketonuria (PKU). His grandmother Jo tells his story.

Charlie's story

"I would definitely encourage every parent to ensure their newborn baby has a heel prick. Once you know your child has a condition like Cystic Fibrosis, there are many things you can do to help him or her have a really good quality of life."

Charlie was born in June 2006. Like nearly all babies born in NZ, Charlie had a heel prick a couple of days after birth. The heel prick results indicated that Charlie could have Cystic Fibrosis.
