Waitematā DHB new breast screening provider for central Auckland

Wednesday, October 14, 2020 - 12:10

Waitematā District Health Board will be the new provider of BreastScreen Aotearoa breast screening services for central Auckland women.

The current provider BreastScreen Auckland Ltd (BSAL) has advised the Ministry of Health that it will finish its contract on 28 February 2021. Following discussions with the other two current providers of breast screening services across the wider Auckland region - Waitemata DHB and Counties Manukau Health - Waitematā DHB agreed to be the lead DHB for the new service. The contract for services will be for five years.

To ensure women can continue to attend free BreastScreen Aotearoa services locally, the Ministry is working with Waitematā DHB to commission the required premises, resources and staff to take over the screening service when the BSAL contract ends.

The Ministry will continue to provide the sector with progress updates.
