Two Forum 2019 participants stand inside the inflatable bowel which is designed to show the progression of bowel cancer from small polyps to advanced tumoursThey came, they saw, they walked through.

Once again the giant inflatable bowel provided a draw card at the recent Health Innovation Forum, held in Wellington. The forum, attended by some 450 visitors from throughout the health sector,  showcased new and progressive initiatives in health and featured more than 40 speakers on a range of health-related topics.

Senior Stakeholder Relations Advisor, Eleanor Harwood, says there was a lot of interest in the National Bowel Screening Programme and its key prop, the inflatable bowel, which was on loan from the Central Regional Bowel Screening Centre.

"The inflatable bowel  is designed to walk through and features the progression of bowel cancer from small polyps to advanced tumours. People find it both fascinating and informative. It is the perfect tool to raise awareness of bowel cancer and the value of screening, to catch it early,” Eleanor says.
