Antenatal Screening for Down syndrome and other conditions is monitored by the National Screening Unit, using information from laboratory information systems with the district health boards (DHBs).

Antenatal Screening for Down Syndrome and Other Conditions: Monitoring Report January 2011 to December 2015 (Word, 1011 KB) includes details on the uptake by age, deprivation and DHB; also information on increased risk results and on the detection rate for this screening. The overall detection rate for trisomy 21, 18 and 13 increased to 87% in 2015, up from 81% in 2014. The radiology quality improvement project has produced positive results with a higher proportion of ultrasound operators completing sufficient scans to enable valid statistical monitoring and feedback.
