Recommendations

The NSU recommends that the parents and guardians of all babies born in New Zealand are offered newborn hearing screening for their babies.

Screening should be completed by one month of age, enabling diagnostic testing to be completed by three months. If a diagnosis of moderate or more severe hearing loss is made, interventions can begin by six months.
