Your confidentiality is carefully protected. To make sure the programme is safe whether or not you choose to have screening all first antenatal blood screening results are collected for monitoring.

 

Monitoring

• Even if you choose not to have the HIV test you will be asked if the DHB can be informed of your choice.  This is to enable the NSU to monitor the programme to make sure it is safe and effective for you and your family, regardless of whether or not you choose to be tested. 

• Collecting information about all women who have antenatal blood screens enables us to identify how many women have chosen to have or not to have screening and tells us a little about them.  For example where they come from and which culture they identify with.  This infomation can help us to make sure that all women are getting an equal opportunity to have screening but does not identify any one individual.

• Details that could be used to identify you will not be used by the national programme unless you specifically consent to this occurring.
• You can of course ask that your information is not shared with the programme for monitoring.
