You are here:
"Go for your breast screening. That way you'll put your mind at peace."
Jane Manawanui Ikinofo - breast cancer survivor. Wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Thames Hospital worker. Ngai Te Rangi, Ngati Porou, Tainui and Hauraki.
Jane Ikinofo (known as Lady Jane to her friends) is a cherished Kuia. She is also a breast cancer survivor. Jane knows more than anyone how important it is for women to go for their breast screening.
"That's the only way you're going to find out. It is very important for yourself and your peace of mind. You can survive but it has to be up to you."
Jane believes that women need to say to themselves:
"I'm going to have this breast screening because I want to know have I or haven't I?"
Most women who go for their breast screening will find that there is nothing wrong. But if cancer is found and treated early enough, you can go on to lead a full and healthy life, just like Jane.
