This Screening Programmes' Quality Framework stems for the NSU's Strategic Plan 2003 - 2008. It supports the NSU's vision and strategic outcomes and provides a structure for quality activities under the "quality improvement" area for action in the Strategic Plan.
The Quality Framework is a key response by the NSU to the Ministry of Health report Improving Quality.

This National Health Promotion Framework and Implementation Planning Guide aims to help users to understand the National Screening Unit's intent and direction for health promotion in screening.
It provides a nationally consistenent framework, to help health promotion practitioners to develop regional health promotion strategies.
The guide is made up of four different sections:
- National Health Promotion FrameworkThe National Screening Unit Strategic Plane 2003 - 2008 outlines how the NSU will contibute toward the particular population health goals and objectives that have been outlined within the New Zealand Health Strategy (Ministry of Health, 2000), namely:
- reduce the incidence and impact of cancer
- reduce inequalities in health status
- encourage healthy lifestyles
- achieve better physical health
- ensure accessibile and appropriate health care services.

The NSU has identified workforce development as one of six key areas for action in its Strategic Plan. Many workforce development initiatives are already in place.
This Workforce Development Strategy and Action Plan outlines the way in which the NSU plans to deliver on that strategic area for action to guide the development of a competent and capable screening workforce. The priority actions have been developed after significant input from the screening sector and other key stakeholders, such as the education sector and professional bodies.
