Cancer Screening Training for New Health Promoters:

Held between July – September annually
All health promoters new to the cancer screening programmes will be informed via their Managers about this training

Orientation Support:

Health Promoters new to the BSA Programme can access training through BSA Lead Providers. The training should cover orientation and overview of the entire screening pathway, which may include (based on consent of women) following a woman through a routine mammogram process, observing assessment procedures and being invited to the MDT and results procedures. Your manager is able to arrange this informal training.

Support can be provided by experienced health promoters/providers within the Breast & Cervical Screening Programmes – make contact with the other health promoters in your region to assist with your orientation.

Health Promotion Specific Forums

The NSU funds and coordinates regular teleconferences for the health promoter groups to ensure they are supported, have a forum to discuss matters with the NSU and allow the sharing of successful initiatives within each region.  These are great forums for networking with other health promoters from throughout New Zealand and include the following:

  • BSA Health Promoter teleconferences and face to face meetings for all health promoters.  One health promoter per provider attends the 6-monthly face to face meetings held in Wellington
  • NCSP Health Promoter teleconferences held quarterly for all NCSP health promoters
  • Kaimahi Teleconference – held the first Tuesday of every month between 9-10am
  • All dates and details of these meetings are discussed in the Cancer Screening Health Promoters teleconference document

Educational Tools for Educating Women:

  • BreastScreen Aotearoa Flipchart
  • National Cervical Screening Programme Flipchart – Mainstream
